SSE said the National Energy System Operator’s Beyond 2030 Update outlines new and upgraded electricity transmission reinforcements considered necessary to meet UK and Scotland energy targets. The proposals include multiple onshore and offshore projects in northern Scotland and could lead to further investment in SSEN Transmission.
Specific schemes include new subsea HVDC links from Aberdeenshire to England and a double-circuit line from Greens substation to Harburn, plus a potential upgrade of the Dounreay’Loch Buidhe’Beauly overhead line. SSE said options it submitted were assessed by NESO. The recommendations will undergo public consultation and require an appropriate regulatory framework, delivery body confirmation, and planning and regulatory approvals.
